Final Post

The Heaven Shop  by: Deborah Ellis. This book was a great book because it had alot of suspense and had a girl that was striped of everything she also lost herself in the process. This book was important to our class because we have learned about the life in Africa

The paper bag game: I thought about the strategy and I am looking forward to play it. The game will teach us about life in India and how lucky we are to have such a good one.

I think that Global Issues is a great class and you need to only bring an open mind. You will learn many things and great skills.

Peace Day

There were many main ideas from this video I saw about peace. First of all, I saw what Peace day actually does. Secondly, I saw that there was no need for violence and aggression in this world. In this world of violence I saw that a day of peace helps the despaired and gives hope to those without any resources. Thirdly, it unites the world and lets everybody hold hands. We would stop all the countless deaths that have been caused by war.

Peace is fundamental to the world so it doesn't tear itself apart. With peace the population of the diseased will be less. Aid and supply movement for the refugees and L.E.D.C. s would be easier. Without peace the world would fall apart there would be a lot of deaths and we would cease to live. With peace we learn to set aside our differences and come together.

Peace is highly linked with development. With peace the world could come together and help each other to rise and become developed and have the greatest of ideas debated and shared. If we could improve global partnership the world could combat the major issues of today and finish the M.D.G.s. If we can come together we can solve many mysteries and be great people with pride.

Cost of war might be hidden but sometimes there big. Recently Obama announced that the war in Iraq was over the news said that the final cost of the war was over 3.4 trillion dollars!!! There would have been many deaths and this would have been a tragic loss to the families on both sides.

Peace cookies

Our class had planned to raise some funds for a Penang charity, we did this by buying some cookies and selling them to our school community. The previous week I was walking around trying my best to sell the peace cookies. I was forced to drop my original price of 2 RM by 50% because nobody was buying them.Then people found the price more reasonable and bought enough cookies to make over 600RM.

I was happy that we sold that many cookies. All of the money went into making t-shirts for the children in the Penang charity. I like to imagine the smiles that the children will have once we give them the shirts. That in itself is the reward I am looking for.

At school we also had a assembly for peace. I got up and spoke about some people who had given great example of peaceful protests and also I spoke about how peace has influenced us. In this assembly we also had to perform a dance using sign language. At the end it was a blast and I hope that everybody got the message.  

What are global issues and why should I care?

Global issues are those problems that greatly affect the life of  mankind. These include poverty, hunger, malnutrition, environmental sustainability, war and conflicts. These issues degrade the mankind. If we solve these major issues, we will not only save the planet from its downward spiral but put it on the track to greatness. 

At our "Global Issues" class, we explore and understand the issues in detail  and learn to contribute towards the betterment of  the world in the small ways that we can. We learn about topics such as the 8 millennium goals. These goals include universal education, global partnership, maternal health, child health, ending poverty and hunger, environmental sustainability, combating HIV/ AIDS, and gender equality.

Personally I have always thought that the world was a beautiful place for everyone, and that was until I took this class. Now, looking back I recall the differences I have seen in the lifestyle of the people in the countries that I have lived and visited. I have had the opportunity to live in countries such as India, Indonesia and Malaysia and visit Australia, Singapore, Thailand and Egypt. People’s lives are different in each of these countries.  I have seen people not having jobs, living in slums and I have also seen people live very comfortably with a carefree mind.

 This feels unfair and this is not the way life should treat humans. There should be equality. Currently major agencies such as the United Nations and NATO provide hope and relief to people in despair, affected by one or more of the above issues.

People all over the world have a dream that someday they will be set free from all the evils and enjoy equal rights and privileges.  To achieve this goal is a huge task that needs the coming together of many heads and hands. So let's all come together and give a hand to those who need it.
